Six steps in ChatGPT's own settings, about a minute — once Developer Mode is on. After that ChatGPT can answer from your real accounts, transactions, budgets and investments: read-only, and only the categories you approve.
Two things to know before you start. Custom MCP connectors live behind ChatGPT's Developer Mode, available on Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise and Edu but not on ChatGPT Free — on Free there is no way to add Hunch today. And Hunch is not in ChatGPT's app directory: we have not submitted it, so looking for it there will not turn anything up. You add it yourself by pasting one address.
Only the first is a hard blocker. Connecting is free on every Hunch plan.
Developer Mode is available on Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise and Edu. It is not available on ChatGPT Free, so a free ChatGPT account cannot add Hunch — or any other custom MCP connector — at all.
You turn it on once, in ChatGPT's connector settings under the advanced options. Nothing in the walkthrough below appears until it is on. OpenAI moves this setting around, so treat their help article as the authority on exactly where it lives today.
ChatGPT connects to remote MCP servers over HTTPS only; it cannot run a local (stdio) server. Hunch is a remote server, so this is not something you have to work around — the address below is all you need.
Keep this page open beside ChatGPT and work down the list. The names in each step are the labels you will see on screen.
In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Connectors, and switch on Developer mode in the advanced options. Until this is on, there is no way to add a connector of your own.
Still under Settings → Connectors, this is where every connector you have appears — the ones OpenAI provides and any you add yourself.

It does not connect anything by itself — you still complete the remaining steps inside ChatGPT. ChatGPT's settings address can change without notice, so if the new tab does not land on the connector screen, get there yourself as described in steps 1 and 2.
Choose the option to add or create a connector, and give it a name you will recognize later. Hunch is a fine one.
Put the connector address into the MCP server URL field. It has to be the https:// address exactly as shown — ChatGPT will not accept a local or http:// one.
https://app.hunch.money/api/mcpChatGPT hands you off to Hunch's own sign-in page — your Hunch password and two-factor code go to Hunch, never to ChatGPT. Then a Hunch consent screen lists each category: accounts and balances, transactions, investments, budgets and goals. Approve the request as a whole. If you share a household, the default is Share only my data; leave it there unless you mean to include your partner's shared data.
Hunch should now show as connected in your connector list. Ask a real question — “what subscriptions am I paying for?” — to confirm it can see your data. Developer Mode connectors are opt-in per conversation, so if a fresh chat cannot see anything, check Hunch is switched on for that chat.
Two screens appear in order: Hunch's own sign-in page, then a Hunch consent screen listing the categories being requested. Approve, and Hunch shows as connected in ChatGPT. If you never saw the consent screen, nothing was granted — go back to the step where you pasted the address.

Developer Mode is off, or your plan does not include it. It is available on Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise and Edu — ChatGPT Free cannot add custom MCP connectors at all, and no setting changes that.
It has to be exactly https://app.hunch.money/api/mcp — with https:// at the front and no trailing space. Remote HTTPS only: an http:// or localhost address is rejected by design. Use the copy button rather than retyping it.
Then nothing was granted, and the connector will not be able to read anything. Remove it and add it again, watching for the hand-off to Hunch's sign-in page followed by the consent screen — those two screens are the connection.
Developer Mode connectors are enabled per conversation, so check Hunch is switched on for the chat you are in. If it is, check which categories you actually approved: Settings → Security → Connected apps in Hunch shows what each connection was granted, and on Free anything older than 12 months is outside the window on purpose.
There are no write permissions in this release — not restricted ones, none at all.
Never shared with ChatGPT: your Hunch password, your two-factor secrets, and your bank credentials — Hunch never holds your bank login in the first place. What you do approve is sent to OpenAI when you ask a question. That is how it answers, and it lands under their privacy terms rather than ours.
The connection reads exactly as far back as your plan does — 12 months on Free, 24 months on Plus, unlimited on Pro. A Free connection cannot answer a year-over-year question, and it says so rather than narrating a trend it never saw.

In Hunch: Settings → Security → Connected apps. Revoking there ends access within about a minute. Removing the connector inside ChatGPT stops ChatGPT using it, but revoking in Hunch is the step that actually withdraws access.
Not on the Hunch side — it is free on every Hunch plan, including Free. You do need a paid ChatGPT plan for Developer Mode, but that is OpenAI's charge, not ours.
Yes — once you connect a bank account to Hunch, any AI assistant you've added as a connector (Claude, ChatGPT, or another MCP-compatible one) can read its balances and transactions. It can't see anything you haven't connected, and it can't move money.
