Terms of Use

The rules for using Hunch. These terms cover the browser extension, web dashboard, optional AI features, and any paid plans.

Last updated: June 22, 2026 · Effective immediately

1. Who we are

Hunch is a personal-finance software tool for people in Canada. In these Terms, "Hunch," "we," "us," and "our" mean the Hunch product and team. "You" means the person using Hunch. "Services" means the Hunch marketing site, web app, browser extension, downloads, optional AI categorization, paid features, support, and related services.

2. What Hunch is, and what it is not

Hunch helps you view and organize your own financial information. Hunch is not a bank, credit union, securities dealer, portfolio manager, investment adviser, financial planner, credit counsellor, payment processor, money transmitter, tax adviser, law firm, or fiduciary.

Hunch does not provide financial, investment, legal, tax, accounting, credit, lending, or insurance advice. Information in Hunch is for personal organization and education only. You are responsible for your own financial decisions and should verify important information against official statements and records from your financial institutions.

Hunch does not initiate transactions, transfers, payments, purchases, trades, withdrawals, deposits, account changes, or money movement. Hunch reads and organizes information shown to you in accounts you access yourself.

3. Eligibility

You may use Hunch only if you are legally able to enter into a binding contract in your province, territory, or country of residence. If you are using Hunch for another person or organization, you represent that you are authorized to do so and to bind that person or organization to these Terms.

4. Your financial accounts and permissions

You may use Hunch only with accounts that you own or are legally authorized to access. You are responsible for keeping your financial institution credentials, devices, browsers, operating system, and extension environment secure.

Hunch reads from browser sessions that you authenticate yourself. We do not ask for, collect, store, transmit, or process your bank username, bank password, or MFA code. Optional Keep signed in features may store supported session material locally in your browser or extension storage so Hunch can validate or refresh supported sessions. You can disable or clear that local session material.

Financial institutions may change their sites, APIs, session rules, access controls, or terms at any time. Hunch may stop working with a supported institution without notice. Your relationship with each institution remains governed by that institution's own agreements, disclosures, and policies.

5. Independence from financial institutions

Hunch is independent. Hunch is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, approved by, or otherwise associated with any financial institution shown on the site or in the app. Names and logos are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to identify supported institutions.

6. Local-first data and optional account features

Hunch is local-first by default. Transaction data, balances, categories, budgets, rules, settings, and saved institution session material can be stored in your browser or extension storage on your device. Local data may be deleted if you clear browser data, remove the extension, reset a browser profile, or lose access to the device. We may not be able to recover local-only data.

If you create an account, subscribe to a paid plan, use cloud features, or use paid AI features, some account, entitlement, billing, support, and limited product data may be processed by Hunch or our service providers as described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Optional AI features

AI categorization is optional. AI results may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or inconsistent. You are responsible for reviewing and correcting categories, summaries, rules, budgets, and other outputs before relying on them.

If you use a bring-your-own-key mode, you are responsible for your AI provider account, API key, charges, provider terms, and provider privacy practices. If you use a paid Hunch AI plan, your access may depend on an active entitlement, usage limits, provider availability, and fraud or abuse checks.

8. Paid plans, billing, and refunds

Some features may require payment. Prices, billing periods, taxes, included usage, limits, and plan features are shown at checkout or in the product. Payments are processed by third-party payment providers. We do not store full payment card numbers.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before renewal. You can cancel through the available billing flow or by contacting support. Unless required by law or stated at checkout, fees are non-refundable and partial billing periods are not prorated. We may change prices or paid features prospectively with reasonable notice.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use Hunch with accounts you do not own or lack permission to access;
  • use Hunch for fraud, identity theft, harassment, unlawful surveillance, or unlawful activity;
  • submit malicious code, attempt unauthorized access, bypass security controls, or overload systems;
  • copy, scrape, resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit Hunch except as expressly allowed;
  • reverse engineer Hunch except to the extent applicable law does not allow this restriction;
  • remove or obscure proprietary notices;
  • misrepresent Hunch as affiliated with a financial institution or other third party;
  • use Hunch in a way that violates law, these Terms, or rights of others; or
  • use automated systems to access Hunch in a manner that harms, disrupts, or degrades the Services.

10. Accuracy, availability, and changes

Hunch depends on data shown by third-party financial institutions and on your browser environment. Totals, categories, net worth, balances, transaction labels, AI outputs, recurring transaction detection, transfer matching, and other calculations may be delayed, incomplete, duplicated, or wrong. Hunch is not a system of record. Official institution statements and records control.

We may add, change, suspend, or remove features, supported institutions, integrations, downloads, plans, or limits at any time. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, compatibility, or error-free operation.

11. Third-party services and links

Hunch may rely on third-party services for hosting, security, authentication, payment processing, AI, browser extension distribution, analytics, communications, and support. Third-party services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party sites, services, content, outages, or decisions.

12. Intellectual property

Hunch, including its software, design, branding, text, graphics, interfaces, workflows, and related materials, is owned by Hunch or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to use Hunch for your personal, non-commercial financial organization.

You own your financial data. You grant Hunch the limited rights needed to provide, secure, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Services you choose to use, including processing data you submit or make available through the extension, app, account, support requests, or optional AI features.

13. Feedback

If you send feedback, suggestions, ideas, or requests, you allow us to use them without restriction or compensation. We are not required to treat feedback as confidential.

14. Privacy and security

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store, and protect information. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure. You are responsible for keeping your devices, browsers, accounts, passwords, and recovery methods secure.

Security reports should be sent to security@hunch.app. Please do not publicly disclose a vulnerability before we have had a reasonable opportunity to investigate and remediate it.

15. Termination

You may stop using Hunch at any time by uninstalling the extension, clearing local data, cancelling any paid plan, and deleting your account if applicable. We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you violated these Terms, created risk, caused harm, failed to pay, or used Hunch unlawfully or abusively.

16. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hunch is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. We disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, quiet enjoyment, and availability.

We do not warrant that Hunch will be secure, uninterrupted, error-free, compatible with any financial institution, accurate, complete, or suitable for your needs.

17. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hunch and its owners, employees, contractors, affiliates, licensors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive, or enhanced damages, lost profits, lost revenue, lost savings, lost data, loss of goodwill, account issues, financial losses, or damages arising from financial decisions, even if we have been advised of the possibility of those damages.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims arising out of or relating to Hunch or these Terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid to Hunch for the Services in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim or CAD $100.

Some laws do not allow certain exclusions or limitations. In those cases, the exclusions and limitations apply only to the maximum extent permitted by law.

18. Indemnity

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Hunch and its owners, employees, contractors, affiliates, licensors, and service providers from claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses arising from your use of Hunch, your data, your breach of these Terms, your violation of law, your misuse of an account, or your infringement of rights of others.

19. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protection laws require otherwise. Courts located in Ontario will have jurisdiction over disputes, except where applicable law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.

Before starting a formal claim, you agree to contact hello@hunch.app and give us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue informally.

20. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page and, if you have an account, may be communicated by email or in-product notice. The updated Terms apply when they are posted unless a later effective date is stated. Continued use of Hunch after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
