## What Hunch is

Hunch connects to your accounts through Plaid and pulls transactions, balances, and investment
holdings into one calm dashboard. Transactions refresh automatically and get categorized for you.
You see categories, trends, balances, budgets, goals, net worth, and every connected account in
one place — plus projections of what today's habits become. The core budgeting app is free
forever (ad-supported); paid tiers unlock investments, portfolio tracking, and more AI.

## Budgeting

Hunch groups spending into Fixed, Flexible, and Non-Monthly sections, each with subtotals and a
collapsible layout. It shows Budget vs Actual vs Remaining as three discrete, color-coded columns
(green on track, red over). The standout is "Left to Budget": how much of your income you have not
yet assigned — allocate every dollar on purpose, and when it hits zero your plan is complete.
Track each income stream (budgeted, landed this period, still expected). A Forecast tab projects
budgeted income vs expenses for the next six periods, including scheduled annual bills dropping in,
so you can spot a tight month before it arrives. Add annual/quarterly bills once (insurance,
subscriptions, property taxes) and Hunch spreads the cost monthly, surfacing the full amount in
the month it comes due. Unused category budget can roll forward per-category or into a shared pool.
Amounts are editable inline with history-based suggestions.

## Investment tracking

Connect any Plaid-supported brokerage — Fidelity, Schwab, Robinhood, E*TRADE, Wealthsimple, and
more — and see every holding in one table: shares, current value, cost basis, and all-time return
(dollars and percent). Filter by account, group by security or account, sort by allocation,
return, or value. Tap any ticker for a deep dive: price history, financials, dividends, earnings,
analyst ratings, and recent news. Real-time quotes, 52-week ranges, volume, P/E, EPS, and market
cap are pulled automatically (no API key). See asset-class allocation (equity, fixed income,
funds, crypto, cash) and your portfolio + net worth over time with a net-deposits baseline that
separates real market performance from contributions. Add manual balances for accounts Plaid does
not cover.

## Crypto tracking

Paste a public wallet address for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, or Polygon
(including ERC-20 token balances) and Hunch reads balances directly from the blockchain — no
account, no login, no private key or seed phrase. It is strictly read-only and can never move funds
or trade. Prices come from CoinGecko for thousands of tokens, valued in your local currency.
Balances refresh every six hours. Crypto is counted in your full net worth and investments view,
with a one-year price backfill so the history chart looks right from day one.

## Households (shared finances)

Combine accounts and see your whole household's balances, net worth, and transactions in one
dashboard. Each member toggles between their own slice and the full combined view; ownership labels
are per-account, so personal accounts stay yours even in the shared view. Create shared budgets and
goals that update in real time when anyone spends or saves. Tag a member on a transaction, get
notified when they recategorize something, and share a monthly check-in. Household member access is
included free with a paid subscription (invited members get their own linked account) plus the
household add-on.

## Data export (no lock-in)

Export your full transaction history, any date range, on every plan (free and paid). Seven formats:
QuickBooks Online (.qbo / OFX), QuickBooks Desktop (.iif), YNAB (four-column CSV with duplicate
detection on re-import), Monarch Money (eight-column with categories carried over), Mint
(nine-column CSV), Xero/Wave (mapped bank-statement CSV), and universal CSV for Excel/Sheets/
Numbers. The export panel shows a live transaction count before you download. Your data is yours to
take, as often as you like.

## AI assistant

Ask plain-language questions ("how much did I spend ordering out?") and the assistant answers from
your own data, then charts it inline with a sentence or two of insight and three contextual
follow-ups. Behind the conversation is a set of tools that compute against your data and the live
market — spending/budgets/merchants, income/expenses/cash-flow forecast, net worth and balances,
holdings/allocation/live quotes, goals and recurring bills, financial math (mortgage, compound
growth, debt payoff, savings rate) with live FX and rate data, projections and "what if"
scenarios, and web search for anything outside your data. Every number it returns comes from a
tool — it never fabricates figures.

AI is opt-in and scoped: tap the Data button and enable only the scopes you want; sensitive scopes
stay off until you turn them on. AI can also categorize transactions into your own categories and
suggest durable keyword rules, map imported statement columns from headers alone (never
transcribing your rows), write a 30-day coaching recap from aggregate signals, and — once you
enable it — take actions like setting a budget, creating a rule, tagging transactions, or managing
income streams (read-only until enabled). Your data is never used to train models and never sold.
Prefer your own provider? Bring your own OpenAI or Anthropic key. Free includes a small monthly
allowance; Plus adds more; Pro is unlimited with model choice (GPT-5 / Claude).

## How bank connections work

You sign in to your bank securely through Plaid; Hunch receives read-only access to transactions
and balances. Hunch never sees your bank password and can never move money. Data is encrypted and
isolated to your account, and you can disconnect anytime.

## Security & privacy

Every architecture decision starts with "what's the minimum we need to see?" Sensitive details
(merchant names, account names, notes) are encrypted with a key unique to your account; the token
linking your bank is sealed separately; everything is protected in transit and at rest. Row-level
security walls each record off to its owner, so one person's data can never leak into another's.
Hunch makes money from subscriptions, not data — never sold, never shared with advertisers, never
used to train AI. Export everything or delete your account (which disconnects your bank and revokes
access) in one step.

## Retirement planning

Retirement planning is currently optimized for Canadian residents (CPP/OAS/RRSP/TFSA). US-specific
planning — 401(k), Roth IRA, Social Security optimization, and federal + state tax modeling — is
coming soon. Note: the standalone retirement *calculator* at https://hunch.money/tools/retirement already
supports both Canada and the US.

## Free calculators

A suite of free calculators (no signup) at https://hunch.money/tools covering mortgage, affordability, rent-vs-
buy, car loan, debt payoff, compound growth, savings rate, net worth, budget (50/30/20), FIRE,
retirement, and income tax. The income-tax calculator covers every Canadian province/territory and
US state (64 regions), each with its own page. RRSP, TFSA, and income-splitting
calculators are Canada-only.

## Pricing

The core budgeting and tracking app is free forever, ad-supported, no credit card. Plus removes ads
and adds investments, portfolio tracking, the mortgage planner, and more AI. Pro adds unlimited AI
with model choice and early access. A household add-on shares any paid plan with a partner or family
member. See https://hunch.money/pricing for current amounts.
